Common questions

Do faculty have to change how they publish?

No. Patly works from what the university already publishes. There is no new workflow for faculty and no new headcount for the TTO.

Why doesn't our TTO already catch this?

Because disclosure depends on researchers coming to the TTO, and typically the only ones who do are already pursuing a startup or a license. Most professors and PhD students never learn the disclosure process exists. Patly removes that dependency entirely by reading what the university publishes, so nothing has to be brought in the door.

The paper is already public. Is it too late to patent?

In the United States, an inventor's own publication starts a 12‑month clock during which the invention can still be patented. Patly tracks every candidate against that clock and ranks what to file first, so the window is not missed.

Who actually signs the filings?
